Outreach Commitments

OUR GOALS

To fulfill our purpose of providing leadership in developing awareness and action that responds to social justice issues in the local, national and world communities we aim:

  • to raise the consciousness of the congregation and encourage study of selected issues, problems and needs;
  • to seek congregational ideas and input on how best to respond to these issues, problems and needs;
  • to recommend ways that the congregation might respond appropriately through action, advocacy and/or service;
  • to seek people to develop, lead, coordinate and support outreach projects and initiatives;
  • to oversee active projects and services;
  • to work in cooperation with community agencies, service and program examples

In Southwest Edmonton, we support:

  • Families needing short term help or having special needs
  • Duggan School students needing assistance
  • Children needing help to attend summer camps
  • Lifestyle Helping Hands which arranges for volunteers to drive seniors to appointments
  • Food Bank by operating a depot for them every Tuesday at 5:30 pm
  • E4C’s Make Tax Time Pay which provides tax preparation assistance to low income individuals and families

In Edmonton’s Inner City, we give assistance to:

  • Operation Friendship that supports seniors living in the inner city.
  • Bissell Centre that provides services and support to families and individuals of all ages living in downtown Edmonton
  • Inner City Youth Development Agency which operates Inner City High assisting inner city youth to get needed education and training

In greater Edmonton, we support:

  • Youth Empowerment and Support Services
  • Various programs that provide safe, affordable housing including Habitat For Humanity
  • Programs to assist women in abusive situations

Beyond Edmonton, our congregation

  • Sponsors refugee families, most recently a family from Zimbabwe and a man from Gambia.
  • Has provided emergency assistance to students from other countries through the International Students Emergency Fund at U of A
  • Has supported the work of Amnesty International
  • Continuously supports the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church
  • Supports Kairos through their Companionship Program
