service and program examples

In Southwest Edmonton, we support:

  • Southern Homes, two group homes providing specialized foster care for children between infancy and 17 years of age
  • Families needing short term help or having special needs
  • McKee School students needing assistance to participate fully in school programs.
  • Children needing help to attend summer camps
  • Lifestyle Helping Hands which arranges for volunteers to drive seniors to appointments
  • Food Bank by operating a depot for them every Tuesday at 5pm
  • Make Tax Time Pay by providing tax preparation assistance to low income individuals and families
  • We are exploring working with other churches to establish a Health and Wellness Centre for the homeless people in Southwest Edmonton which will be patterned after the very successful Jasper Place Health and Wellness Centre.

In Edmonton’s Inner City, we give assistance to:

  • Operation Friendship that supports seniors living in the inner city.
  • Bissell Centre that provides services and support to families and individuals of all ages living in downtown Edmonton
  • Inner City Youth Development Agency which operates Inner City High assisting inner city youth to get needed education and training

In greater Edmonton, we support:

  • The Youth Emergency Shelter
  • Various programs that provide safe, affordable housing including Habitat For Humanity
  • Programs to assist women in abusive situations

Beyond Edmonton, our congregation has

  • Sponsored refugee families, most recently a couple from Ethiopia
  • Provided emergency assistance to students from other countries through the International Students Emergency Fund at U of A
  • Supported the work of Amnesty International
  • Continuously supported the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church
