Nancy’s faith has been nurtured in several Christian communities. She began her faith journey in a Baptist church in northern New Brunswick. After completing a B.Sc. in psychology, Nancy studied at Fuller Theological Seminary in California and Toronto School of Theology. She was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1981 and served Valleyview Presbyterian in Calgary before moving to Edmonton to study law at the University of Alberta. During her years as a law student, Nancy served Metropolitan Community Church of Edmonton and Evansburg-Greengrove Pastoral Charge. In 1993, Nancy began practicing law on a part-time basis and serving in ministry positions with Rio Terrace (Moravian) Community Church, Deer Park United Church in Calgary and Buchanan Eastwood United Church in Edmonton. Nancy has been part of our ministry team since August, 2003. She received a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching in May 2009.
Nancy’s vision of ministry is companioning the journey; sharing the search for spirit; critiquing the social order; advocating justice; feeding hungry hearts; speaking truth to power and to the powerless. She is committed to the gospel as a vision of social and global transformation.
Christopher, an Edmonton native, grew up surrounded by love and support within two faith communities. Raised at the heels of his parent`s strong church ties at St. Augustine`s Anglican Church, Chris learned leadership from an early age. His musical skills were nurtured there, leading to his accepting the position of musician with Rio Terrace Moravian Church. After obtaining a music performance degree at the University of Alberta, Christopher studied at Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem, PA, earning his MDiv. and being ordained in the Moravian Church in 1999. During his years as a Moravian Minister, Chris served churches in Edmonton and Mississauga, most recently in the area of new church development where he worked with diverse communities in new ways of engaging the spiritual life. Being welcomed into the United Church of Canada in 2010, he is thrilled to bring his experience and energy to the vital congregation of Southminster-Steinhauer.
Christopher has a passion for exploring and expressing the Christian faith in new ways and in new directions that recognize the evolution of the church, the needs of our spirits, the realities of our world, and the capacity we create to make change and difference in tomorrow’s world.
