Our Church Life

"Jery grew up in the United Church while I grew up Catholic.  After we married, we decided to pick one church for our children to give them a solid spiritual background.  Southminster-Steinhauer has been the right place for our family because everybody is welcome without regard of our differences."

Jery and Chona Aguilar

Family and Children's Ministries:  Parents and kids today are on-the-go, often attempting to find the right balance between home, business, and school, between making a living and "having a life". Southminster-Steinhauer offers programs for parents which seek to address the stressful realities as well as illuminate the underlying joy that lies at the heart of all relationships rooted in love. Program offerings in this area include

Youth Ministries: Teenage years can be tough on kids lives as bodies change and mature. Along with increasing freedom, these years bring increasing responsibility to make good choices. Figuring out how to be a Christian impacts on these choices, while at the same time making new friends and having lots of fun are primary concerns of Southminster-Steinhauer's youth ministry. Today's youth are tomorrow's leaders in church and society. We want to prepare our youth not only to survive but thrive!

Adult Ministries: Southminster-Steinhauer believes that each member is a minister of the gospel according to her or his interests and abilities.  Sunday morning reflects this belief with broad participation of the membership in worship leadership. Laypeople also contribute their time and talents to create small group experiences that challenge the intellect and nourish the soul. Whether it's Tuesday Connection, which participants describe as "a wide-ranging, free thinking" study group sessions, or a Healing Touch workshop, the life of the Spirit is explored and shared in adult-oriented programs.

"I first heard about this church in 1977 from a flyer dropped off in my mailbox.  I accepted the invitation to attend a service and am so glad that I did!  From that first Sunday I have felt welcome and at home in this warm, friendly community."
