Adult Education

This committee designs and implements various adult-learning opportunities to foster spiritual development, primarily within the scope of:

  • Scripture
  • Theology
  • Spiritual Practices
  • Interfaith Matters

We develop programs for learning about important contemporary faith issues within a Christian framework.

In 2005-2006, we launched a monthly series entitled “Spiritual Explorations”. Each session introduced a different spiritual practice by providing both a forum in which to learn about the practice, and also an opportunity to experience the practice.  This year’s series, offered from September through May, included
  • Music in the Style of Taize (September)
  • Yoga for the Spirit (October)
  • Creating a Sacred Space (November)
  • The Labyrinth as Walking Prayer (January 29)
  • Awaken to Insights through Mandala (February 26)
  • Drumming and Chanting in Circle (March 26)

Another series which has been offered this year is called “Living the Questions”, a study which engages traditional faith questions in a new way.  It is not intended to spell out new doctrine or create new dogma but to serve as a catalyst to open the door to the future for a more progressive Christianity.

Spring Session dates are March 27, April 3, 10, 17 from 7-9 pm.  Topics are

  • Lives of Jesus
  • Compassion: The Heart of Jesus’ Ministry
  • A Passion for Christ: Paul the Apostle
  • Out into the World: Challenges Facing Progressive Christianity

Please feel welcome to join us on our journey and stay tuned for upcoming programs.
